Knights Templar Swimming Pool Emergency Action Plan
EVACUATION OF POOL
​
The pool must be cleared immediately on the following occasions:
​

On hearing the fire alarm
-
Lack of water clarity (ie. the drain cover appears blurred)
-
Serious injury of a bather
-
Discovery of a casualty in the water.
-
Lighting failure
​
Evacuation may also need to be considered for the following if appropriate:
​
-
Disorderly behaviour
-
Structural failure
-
Emission of toxic gases
​
FIRE ALARM PROCEDURE
​
Fire Alarm: The signal for all people to leave the swimming pool building is a continuous bell.
DURING SCHOOL HOURS
​
Meeting Point: Rear of the building, standing at the furthest edge of the playground.
Procedure:
​

Exit the pool using either fire exit and collecting a foil blanket from the bag hung at each
exit, marked ‘Foil Blankets’ -
Proceed to the meeting point on the back playground and await further instruction.​​

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS
​
Meeting Point: Grassed area opposite the main school Reception.
​
Procedure:

Exit the pool using either fire exit and collecting a foil blanket from the bag hung at each
exit, marked ‘Foil Blankets’ -
Proceed to meeting point on grass verge, phone emergency services and caretaker and await further instruction

MINOR EMERGENCIES: NON-LIFE THREATENING
​​

Remove casualty from the pool either by the use of poles to carry out a reaching rescue or by entering the water and, if appropriate, take to hospital or call an ambulance

Carry out First Aid. The pool must not be left unsupervised while dealing with the casualty. If necessary clear the pool of bathers

After the emergency, report to the Headteacher, complete the Accident Report Form and if necessary Parent Advice Form kept in the school office. Arrange for the First Aid Box to be replenished

MAJOR EMERGENCIES: SERIOUS INJURY

Clear the pool of bathers, clear the pool and without aggravating the injury bring the casualty out of the pool. If this cannot be achieved bring the casualty to the side of the pool and support. Reassure the casualty and await emergency services. Bathers must be instructed to dry and put their clothes on.

After the emergency report to the Headteacher and complete the Accident Report and Parent Advice Forms. Arrange for the First Aid Kit to be replenished.

MAJOR EMERGENCIES: LIFE THREATENING SITUATION
​

Immediately clear the pool of bathers, arrange for an ambulance to be summoned using 999 and at the same time commence EAR/ECC.

Bathers must be instructed to dry and put their clothes on. After the emergency, report the incident to the Headteacher and complete the Accident Report and Parent Advice Forms.
