💦 We're Open! 💦

Knights Templar Swimming Pool at Knights Templar Community Church School and Nursery in Watchet is an indoor, 12.5m long pool, kept at a balmy 30 degrees! We are thrilled to announce that we have opened our fantastic swimming pool to the public. This short article is about all the reasons why!

Swimming Saves Lives

Learning to swim from an early age equips children with essential water safety skills. It helps them develop confidence and competence in the water, reducing the risk of accidents and drowning. Knowing how to swim can be a life-saving skill. Especially in our coastal community!

Sustainability

Heating water in cold climates like ours is a very, very expensive thing to do. Maintaining pool plant, keeping a humid pool building from rotting, and paying cleaning and chemical testing staff is also incredibly expensive. So it's no surprise that many of the UK's pools have had to shut down because they simply cannot sustain themselves. By maximising paid use of the pool, revenues generated will help sustain it for years to come.

Free School Swimming

Children at Knights Templar currently have to pay for swimming lessons during school hours. We really want to make this free! Hopefully the pool will generate enough revenue not only to sustain itself, but also pay for school swimming lessons.

Healthy Community

At the heart of our mission lies the desire to foster a healthier community. We recognise that swimming is not just a recreational activity but a means to improve physical and mental well-being. By making our pool available to the public, we aim to encourage more people to embrace an active lifestyle and take advantage of the numerous health benefits that swimming offers. From children learning water safety skills to adults seeking low-impact workouts, our pool becomes a hub for fostering a healthier, happier community.

Inclusivity

Our decision to open the swimming pool to the public was driven by our unwavering commitment to inclusivity. We firmly believe that water safety, water confidence, and the joy of swimming should be accessible to all members of our community, regardless of age, background, or ability. By extending our facilities to the public, we open doors for individuals who might not have had the opportunity to experience the transformative power of swimming.

Legacy

Knights Templar Swimming Pool has a rich history that dates back to 1993. It took 4 years of fundraising by the 'Splashout Committee' to fund the first build, and numerous upgrades and extensions since. History enthusiasts should read Jim Butterworth's account on the Watchet Dolphins website. By modernising the pool booking system we intend to extend the pool's legacy for generations to come!

Opening our swimming pool to the public marks an exciting new chapter in the story of Knights Templar Swimming Pool. We are humbled by the opportunity to share our passion for water safety and wellness with an extended community, and we look forward to making a positive impact on the lives of all who come through our doors. Together, we dive into a future where the joy of swimming, water confidence, and healthier living know no boundaries, enriching the lives of our coastal community and beyond.
